MCRF is a 501 © 3 non profit organization. Annual information returns and tax exempt application materials are available for inspection upon request. Founded in August of 2002 by Dr. Nicolas W. Shammas, MS, MD to conduct clinical cardiovascular trials, and to perform regional educational activities for health care personnel and the general public, educating persons on the recognition and prevention of heart disease. MCRF's principal office and place of buisness is located in Scott county, Iowa.  The foundation is not organized for profit and no part of the net earnings of MCRF is distributed to, or insure to the benefit of, any member, director or officer of this corporation, contributor or private individual.

MCRF's Board of Directors is comprised of clinical investigators from the Midwest. The Board consists of elected  members, the President (Chair of the Board), Research Director (co-chair of the Board), and the Founder, Dr. Nicolas Shammas. The Board:

1. Reviews research projects and educational activities to determine if they meet the overall mission of MCRF and recommends their acceptance to be conducted within the clinical investigators network. As the meeting of the Board tends to be infrequent to deal with continued upcoming trials into the Foundation, the Research Director acts on behalf of the Board in signing off on clinical trials which are all reported to the Board during its scheduled meetings.

2. Oversees the financial and operational aspects of MCRF

4. Recommends future directions of MCRF

5. Oversees committees' functions 1

MCRF works closely with interested parties (physician-scientists, pharmaceutical and device companies and others) to design research protocols, conduct them through our participating sites and disseminate their findings to the scientific community and the public in a very accurate and timely manner
